Real and Fake History for September 8th, 2010. Red State Report

Obama Think Tank

  • On this day in 1974, President Ford pardoned former President Richard Nixon stating that “My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.” Two years after this was said, President Ford lost to Jimmy Carter…
  • In 1998, Mark McGwire passed Roger Maris for the single season home run record.  Coincidentally, his stock in a syringe company quadrupled in value in the same time period.
  • King Richard I of England was born in 1157
  • On September 8th, 2003, The RIAA began suing individuals sharing copyrighted mp3 files.  Later, they claim success when the percent of illegally shared mp3’s drop .3% to 99.6%
  • Oprah Winfrey is broadcast nationally for the first time on this day in 1986.  Just too easy to leave a sarcastic comment on this one…we will just leave it alone
  • Galveston Texas was slammed by the deadliest hurricane in US History on September 8th, 1900.  Over 6000 people drowned.
  • In 1892, the Pledge of Allegiance first appeared in the Youth’s Companion.  On September 9th, the ACLU was organized to fight this insidious scourge of society and protect our youth from showing any love for this country.
  • Italy surrenders to the Allies on September 8th, 1943.
  • On September 8th, 1994, newlyweds Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley go public at the MTV Music Awards.  For the only time in his career, Michael Jackson was accused of lip-syncing after witnessing their infamous kiss. (He was a great singer, but I couldn’t resist!)

Starting tomorrow, these will start getting published earlier in the day.  If you have any comments or want to add anything, please feel free to write down below.  We have lots of other stories (funny and serious) on the Red State Report.  Enjoy yourself and thanks for stopping by.
