Osama Bin Laden is Dead: Congratulations USA

We are on different sides of the aisle politically, but we congratulate President Obama and the US Military for finally bringing Osama Bin Laden to justice.  He received his May-Day basket from all of us.  We also wish to congratulate former President George Bush on watching a chapter of this fight come to an end that he started so many years ago.

Here are what former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton had to say about the momentous news that Osama Bin Laden had been hunted down and killed

Bush called the operation a “momentous achievement” that “marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.”

“I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude,” the former president said in a statement. “The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message:  No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.”

Former President Bill Clinton, who was in office for the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, also issued a written statement about the death of Osama Bin Laden:

“I congratulate the President, the National Security team and the members of our armed forces on bringing Osama bin Laden to justice after more than a decade of murderous al-Qaida attacks,” he said.

Here is the core of the statement that President Obama made last night while some of us were watching late night TV:

“Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body,” President Obama said late Sunday evening.

In the coming days, there is going to be a lot of justified speculation about the Pakistani Government and whether or not they actually helped hide Osama Bin Laden.

For the next while, tensions will be heightened around the world as to any repercussions that will take place as a result of killing Osama Bin Laden.  (For my part, most of the Arab World is probably actually relieved that he’s dead as he as brought a lot of wrath down on certain countries as a result of his actions)!  For the next couple of weeks, we need to recognize that the political climate will be different.

I would invite all of you to stay clear of the temptation to turn this in a political event.  I heard one person who actually thought that the timing, taking place at the tail end of The Celebrity Apprentice (Donald Trump’s show), was more than coincidence.  Please avoid these kind of outbursts with the same gusto that we avoid Phelps and the Gang at military funerals.

This is one issue that we are all Americans.  There will be plenty of time, and issues, for us to disagree with President Obama on in the coming months.  There will be plenty of time whether the Republicans pick a real candidate (like Romney) or go with a billionaire version of Krusty the Clown (Simpsons reference) in Donald Trump.  There will be plenty of time for us to continue to mortgage our kids future.

Congratulate President Obama, his team and former President Bush on a job that is now completed and to finish the fight against Al Qaeda and those who would wish us harm.  What a day!  Osama Bin Laden is Dead and as an added bonus- he gets to meet his 72 virgins, all looking like Helen Thomas and Janet Reno!

Amen, Pastor Steve! Thank you for giving the truth that is found in the Word of God. We don’t need to get confused or deceived, if we would just know the word of God. God’s word is truth and Jesus said the truth will set us free!
